Metallic spin-glasses beyond mean-field: an approach to the impurity-concentration dependence of the freezing temperature.

چکیده
A relation between the freezing temperature (T(g)) and the exchange couplings (J(ij)) in metallic spin-glasses is derived, taking the spin correlations (C(ij)) into account. This approach does not involve a disorder average. The expansion of the correlations to first order in J(ij)/T(g) leads to the molecular-field result from Thouless-Anderson-Palmer. Employing the current theory for the spin interaction in disordered metals, an equation for T(g) as a function of the concentration of impurities is obtained, which reproduces the available data from AuFe, AgMn, and CuMn alloys well.

Concentration dependence of the transition temperature in metallic spin glasses
– The dependence of the transition temperature Tg in terms of the concentration of magnetic impurities c in spin glasses is explained on the basis of a screened RKKY interaction. The two observed power laws, Tg ∼ c at low c and Tg ∼ c 2/3 for intermediate c, are described in a unified approach. Metallic spin glasses such as Cu1−cMnc, Ag1−cMnc, Au1−cFec are alloys formed by magnetic impurities e...
متن کاملSome aspects of infinite range models of spin glasses: theory and numerical simulations
The expression " spin glasses " was originally coined to describe metallic alloys of a non-magnetic metal with few, randomly substituted, magnetic impurities. Experimental evidences where obtained for a low temperature " spin-glass " phase characterized by a non-periodic freezing of the magnetic moments (the spins) with a very slow, and strongly history dependent, response to external perturbat...
متن کاملTemperature evolution and bifurcations of metastable states in mean-field spin glasses, with connections with structural glasses
The correlations of the free-energy landscape of mean-field spin glasses at different temperatures are investigated, concentrating on models with a first-order freezing transition. Using a ‘potential function’ we follow the metastable states of the model in temperature, and discuss the possibility of level crossing (which we do not find) and multifurcation (which we find). The dynamics at a giv...
متن کاملMetallic spin glasses
Recent work on the zero temperature phases and phase transitions of strongly random electronic system is reviewed. The transition between the spin glass and quantum paramagnet is examined, for both metallic and insulating systems. Insight gained from the solution of infinite range models leads to a quantum field theory for the transition between a metallic quantum paramagnetic and a metallic sp...
متن کاملReal spin glasses relax slowly in the shade of hierarchical trees
The Parisi solution of the mean-field spin glass has been widely accepted and celebrated. Its marginal stability in 3d and its complexity however raised the question of its relevance to real spin glasses. This paper gives a short overview of the important experimental results which could be understood within the mean-field solution. The existence of a true phase transition and the particular be...
